Payback as quick as 3 years

Sites with strong daytime electricity use can achieve faster payback. We calculate the return for your building and consumption, so you can make an informed decision.

Built around your organisation

High electricity use?
Put solar to work on
your biggest overhead.

If your organisation runs refrigeration, production equipment, cooling, IT systems or vehicle charging, electricity can be a major overhead. EPC designs solar around the power you use, with particular attention to demand during daylight hours and the opportunity to use generation on site.

Manufacturing & industrial production

Factories, engineering businesses, plastics processors and packaging plants: assess solar against production schedules, machinery, compressors and daytime electricity demand.

Cold storage & refrigerated distribution

Cold stores, chilled warehouses and refrigerated distribution centres: assess sustained refrigeration demand against solar generation throughout the day.

Food & drink production

Food processors, commercial bakeries, dairies, breweries and bottling plants: design around electric processing, refrigeration, packaging and operating hours.

Pharmaceutical manufacturing & laboratories

Assess solar against electricity demand from production equipment, ventilation, cooling, refrigeration and laboratory operations. Installation planning reflects your site’s access, safety and operational requirements.

Data centres & IT facilities

Assess how solar can offset part of continuous IT and cooling demand, with careful electrical integration and coordination around critical operations.

Supermarkets, wholesale & large retail

Review refrigeration, lighting, ventilation and cooling loads alongside roof suitability and trading hours.

Hotels, care homes & healthcare

Assess extended operating hours, kitchens, laundry, ventilation and cooling to identify the electricity solar can realistically replace.

Leisure centres, gyms & swimming pools

Review pumps, filtration, ventilation, cooling and other electrical loads. Distinguish electrical consumption from gas used for pool or space heating.

Schools, colleges, universities & academy trusts

Reduce electricity costs across classrooms, IT, kitchens, lighting and ventilation, with a design that accounts for term-time use and school holidays. EPC plans installation around safeguarding, access and the school’s operating timetable.

Car showrooms, workshops & fleet depots

Explore solar for workshops, lighting, cooling and EV charging, with particular attention to when vehicles actually charge.

Farms, agriculture & horticulture

Dairy farms, poultry units, produce packhouses and electrically intensive growing operations: assess refrigeration, ventilation, irrigation and processing loads.

Warehouses, logistics & distribution

Assess actual electricity demand, including automation, refrigeration and daytime fleet charging. A large roof alone does not mean high electricity use.

Solutions for smaller businesses and community buildings too

We also welcome village halls, charities, offices and smaller commercial premises. Every project is assessed on its own merits, with a system matched to your building, usage and budget.

See the savings for your site
before you commit.

You do not need to know how many panels you want. Start with your address and a little information about your electricity use. We will review the opportunity and explain what is worth investigating further.

Initial figures are indicative and subject to survey, technical checks and final design. Half-hourly electricity data, where available, helps us build a more accurate picture.

  1. Your site

A recommended system size and indicative layout, with the site checks and approvals needed to progress.

  2. Your demand

Estimated annual generation and how much you could use on site, based on your electricity use.

  3. Your options

Projected annual savings and payback, with clear assumptions and solar-only or battery comparisons where relevant.

  4. Your next step

A clear recommendation and the technical checks needed before survey and final design.

Solar and storage

Solar and storage for your needs today and your plans for tomorrow.

For sites that use most of their electricity during the day, solar alone may offer a strong return. Where your usage and tariffs support it, battery storage can help you use surplus solar later or manage periods of higher demand. We will compare the options and explain where the additional investment makes sense.

We can also consider how future EV charging, electric heating, cooling or site expansion could change your energy demand.

Costs and funding

Choose the route that suits
your cash flow.

Compare ownership, monthly cost, savings and long-term responsibility alongside the installation price.

01

Own the system

Capital purchase

Keep the long-term savings

Pay for the installation upfront and own the energy asset. This route suits businesses looking to retain more of the long-term saving.

Available tax or capital allowance treatment may help the commercial case, subject to advice.

02

Spread the investment

Asset finance

Put solar to work while spreading the cost

Spread the project cost over time while the system starts reducing imported electricity. Compare repayments against projected energy savings and consider the total cost over the agreement.

Finance is subject to approval and lender terms.

Finance is subject to approval and lender terms. Tax and capital allowance treatment depends on your business; seek advice from your accountant.

Power Purchase Agreement

Solar without the
upfront capital purchase.

A PPA can let an eligible business buy electricity from an on-site solar system at an agreed rate while a third party owns and maintains it.

Contract length, savings and end-of-term options depend on the site, usage and proposal.

Ask whether a PPA suits your site

Frequently asked questions

The practical details, answered clearly.

Solar designed around your site and how you use electricity.

Do you work with smaller organisations and community buildings?

Yes. We welcome enquiries from village halls, charities and smaller businesses as well as larger commercial sites. We assess each building on its own merits and explain whether solar makes practical and financial sense.

How quickly could solar pay for itself?

Payback can be as quick as three years on suitable sites, particularly where a high proportion of solar generation is used during the day. Your consumption, tariffs, installation cost and site conditions determine the result. We show the estimated payback for your project.

Can solar work for a large data centre?

Solar can offset part of a data centre’s electricity demand where suitable space and electrical integration are available. The design must account for the existing infrastructure and operational requirements. It is assessed as part of the wider energy strategy.

Do we need a battery?

Not necessarily. We assess when you use electricity and compare whether storage adds enough value to justify its cost.

Will installation interrupt our operations?

We plan work around your site, including access, deliveries and any necessary shutdowns. Any expected disruption is discussed and agreed before installation.

How much do commercial solar panels cost?

Commercial solar cost depends on system size, roof type, access, electrical infrastructure, scaffolding or lifting requirements, monitoring, battery storage and funding route. EPC reviews your site and usage before giving a clear recommendation and quote.

Can commercial solar work if we do not own the building?

It can, but the lease, landlord consent, roof responsibility and length of occupation need checking early. EPC can help identify the questions to resolve before the design progresses.

Do commercial solar panels need planning permission?

Many roof-mounted commercial solar installations can be permitted development, but planning, conservation, listed-building, grid and landlord requirements can vary. EPC will flag the checks that apply to your site.

What happens to electricity we do not use?

Surplus electricity may be exported to the grid where metering and export arrangements allow it. For many businesses, the strongest savings come from using as much generated power on site as possible.

Do commercial solar panels need maintenance?

Solar PV has low routine maintenance compared with many building systems, but monitoring, inspections, cleaning where needed and periodic electrical checks help protect long-term performance.
