Heat pump servicing in plain English
A heat pump is part of a wider heating system. A thorough service considers the outdoor unit, cylinder, controls and connected equipment together, in line with the applicable manufacturer’s instructions.
Routine maintenance, fault diagnosis and repairs are different jobs. We explain what the service includes and quote separately for any additional work.

Why EPC
Established in 2016, EPC brings experience in heat pump design, installation, commissioning and maintenance to your service visit.
Your engineer understands how the heat pump, cylinder, controls and connected equipment work together.
Service engineers are backed by technical management, with practical experience across the life of a heating system.
Cleaning, recorded measurements and a photographic service record show the work completed and what needs attention.
What your annual service includes
Your qualified, experienced engineer cleans, inspects, measures and tests the relevant parts of your system against the manufacturer’s servicing requirements.
Strip-down of relevant components as required, with cleaning and inspection of the casing, evaporator coil, fan, drainage and airflow clearances.
Review of operating pressures, heating and hot-water flow rates, flow and return temperatures, and pump speeds.
Checks of compressor starts, running hours and recorded errors to help identify potential operating issues.
Review of thermostat operation, heating curve, hot-water temperature and relevant settings.
Inspection and cleaning of fitted strainers and magnetic filters, with before-and-after photographs.
Assessment of water clarity, pH, inhibitor levels and antifreeze protection where applicable.
Inspection for leaks, insulation condition, valve operation and expansion vessel pressures.
Checks of fitted safety valves, discharge arrangements, cylinder expansion vessel, immersion operation and legionella-cycle settings where applicable.
A record of the work, system readings, findings and recommendations, supported by service photographs.
An explanation of the findings, any further work required, operating status and when the next service is due.
The exact checks and strip-down depend on the manufacturer, model, fitted equipment and access. Additional repairs, replacement parts and remedial work are quoted separately.
When to get in touch
Do not wait for a complete breakdown. If your heating, hot water, noise or running costs have changed, tell EPC what you have noticed so we can suggest the right next step.
Heating or hot water takes longer than normal
The outdoor unit is noisier than usual
Fault codes appear on the controller
Pressure drops or needs regular topping up
Energy use has increased without an obvious reason
The unit is blocked by leaves, debris or poor airflow

Frequently asked questions
Understand the visit, your warranty position and the support available before you decide.
Follow your manufacturer’s servicing instructions. An annual service helps maintain a clear service history. Warranty requirements depend on your manufacturer and warranty terms; servicing does not create or extend a warranty.
The usual one-off heat pump system service is £360 including VAT. EPC confirms the appropriate visit before booking. Fault diagnosis, repairs, replacement parts and additional remedial work are quoted separately.
The three packages have the same benefits. Complete Warranty is for systems with active manufacturer and EPC workmanship warranties. Manufacturer Warranty applies when the manufacturer warranty remains active but EPC workmanship cover has expired. Beyond Warranty applies when both have expired. If you are not sure, EPC will check your warranty position with you.
EPC will confirm the service schedule and payment terms before you join. Please tell us your last service date and whether a service is already due so we can explain the appropriate next step.
Yes. Tell EPC that your service is due when you enquire. EPC will explain the one-off service option, any payment required and the timing of an included membership service before you decide.
Your warranty position determines membership eligibility. Tell EPC if either warranty is approaching expiry so we can confirm the appropriate package and any price change before you proceed. Membership does not extend either warranty.
Yes. Describe the symptoms or fault code so EPC can confirm the right visit. Annual servicing and a repair call-out are different. Membership does not mean existing faults, diagnostic visits, repairs or replacement parts are included at no extra charge; EPC will confirm how your enquiry is handled.
All three memberships include 25% off chargeable parts and labour. EPC will confirm the scope of any repair quote, including any call-out or travel charges, before additional work is agreed.
No. It includes an annual service and shared membership benefits. It does not create or extend a manufacturer or workmanship warranty, and it does not include unlimited repairs or free replacement parts.
You can enquire about a system installed by another company. Send your postcode, make and model if known so EPC can confirm service compatibility and the appropriate route.
Share your postcode and EPC will confirm whether service is available for your property before booking.
Heat Pump Plus includes online or telephone support. EPC will confirm support availability before you join. This should not be treated as a promise of 24/7 attendance or an included emergency repair visit.
Your name, contact details, postcode and whether you need a service, fault help or membership advice. Include your brand and model, last service date and current membership status if known. You do not need to know your warranty category to enquire.
